“Secrets of Kerry” is a truly fascinating DVD – no home, GAA club,school or library should be without one – and that is true , whether one is a Kerryman (like me) or any man or woman anywhere whether Irish or of Irish descent . Even my journalist friends from the “People’s Republic of Cork”(!) grudgingly praised it.
I cannot recall any Irish sports DVD , which has covered a subject in such detail, covering so many years, and with so many ‘human interest’ tales, mainly “happy ones”, some “sad” and with passion and depth of feeling for the Gaelic Games which have played so much a part in life in Rural Ireland over the last 125 years . That such detailed accounts of great Kerry events, so many interviews were recorded with so many ‘greats of the past’ makes this a DVD that no follower of Kerry football should be without.
It truly helps once more to see the powerful part that sport, especially Gaelic Games, play in Ireland and beyond in these dark and gloomy economic times and why the GAA will emerge as strong as ever, in years to come despite the loss of so many young players just now and in the foreseeable future.
