Weeshie and I have worked together doing interviews on football & documentaries for a number of years now. During one of those games I mentioned to Weeshie about a project I was thinking about going to work on, it was about three years ago. The idea was to produce something for the 125th anniversary of the G.A.A. which was in 2009. We didn’t realize at the time the scale of the project and although we missed the deadline for the anniversary, now the new target was for 2010.
My idea was of doing a story on each Kerry winning captain who won an All-Ireland, the story would focus on their lives and what it meant to them and their families.
Straight away Weeshie thought it was a great idea and then one night he rang me and said he had a captain lined up. It was Jas Murphy who is the oldest surviving winning captain.
And the rest as they say is history…
